Amidst the unpredictable times that we are currently living through medical professionals are euphoric after saving lives diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus. As many may know, on March 16 Gov. Phil Murphy announced the plan to close schools across the state of New Jersey in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus. Shortly following this, the incredibly hardworking staff at Ocean Medical Center was seeing its first glimmer of hope in the battle: a patient sent home to complete recuperation. The increasing number of successes similar to this and the sense of community is what drives the staff to keep pushing through such a difficult circumstance. As of April 14 there have been 134 coronavirus patients whose lives were saved at Ocean Medical Center. The nurses and doctors even keep a whiteboard to keep track of all successes to further inspire and motivate all of the hospital’s staff. We as a community are eternally grateful for the dedication and persistence of all medical professionals and front line workers who are able to keep everything moving in a positive direction.

In South Toms River, Terrace Hardy is a bowtie mogul who decided to make fanciful and fun bowties to contradict the very plain and boring bowties that seemed to dominate the market. His new idea in this pandemic was to start using his fabrics to make cloth face masks for hospitals due to the shortages the medical professionals were experiencing. He is assisting the community while creating fun masks that can bring joy and laughter to those men and women on the front lines taking care of patients. Hardy’s website for LookForMeBowTies keeps getting requests and he is selling them on the website as well as donating to hospitals all around the country.

The Brick Township Police Department is doing its fair share of spreading birthday cheer amongst Brick Township children. In these unprecedented times, kids of all ages are spending their special day alone and without the birthday parties filled with friends that they’ve grown accustomed to. But BTPD has been spreading joy by featuring children, ages 10 and under, in special birthday messages on their Instagram page. Posts feature officers, such as Sgt. Kelly, wishing the kids happy birthday, and sometimes even a reaction video from the birthday kids themselves! Thank you BTPD!
